Privacy Policy for The Warrantyist
This privacy policy explains what information The Warrantyist ("we," "us," "our") collects when you visit warrantyist.com, how we use that information, who we share it with, and the choices you have. The Warrantyist is operated by Cascade Data LLC, a United States limited liability company. If you have questions about this policy or want to exercise a right described below, contact us at ask@warrantyist.com.
Who is responsible for your data
The data controller for warrantyist.com is Cascade Data LLC. You can reach us at ask@warrantyist.com.
What we collect
We collect a small amount of information directly, and we work with third parties (affiliate networks, hosting and security providers) that may collect additional information when you visit our pages.
Information you give us directly
If you email us, we receive your email address and the contents of your message. We use this only to respond.
Information collected automatically when you visit
- Server access logs. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) records standard request data: IP address, user-agent, referring URL, requested URL, response code, and timestamp. We use this to operate the site, prevent abuse, and diagnose errors.
- Cloudflare's network-level security and analytics. Cloudflare runs network security services in front of our site (DDoS mitigation, bot detection) which evaluate request signals. Cloudflare also provides aggregated analytics. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
Information collected by third parties on our pages
When you click an affiliate link on our site, the destination merchant or affiliate network may set cookies, pixels, or similar tracking technologies on your device to attribute the referral and (if you make a purchase) credit our account. The networks we work with are listed below. Each has its own privacy policy linked.
Affiliate relationships and tracking
The Warrantyist participates in affiliate programs. When you click a link and make a qualifying purchase from a partner merchant, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. Our recommendations are not paid placements; we earn commissions when you click and purchase, but our editorial process does not pick winners based on commission rate.
Amazon Associates Program
The Warrantyist is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Amazon and its service providers may set cookies, gather click data, and read cookies on Amazon-affiliated properties to attribute referrals. See the Amazon Privacy Notice.
MaxBounty
The Warrantyist works with the MaxBounty CPA affiliate network. When you click a link to a MaxBounty-network advertiser, MaxBounty's tracking system may record the click and any subsequent action you take with the advertiser, including any conversion event. See the MaxBounty Privacy Policy.
CJ Affiliate (Commission Junction)
The Warrantyist works with CJ Affiliate. CJ deploys "Device Tracking Technologies" (cookies, pixels, scripts) on advertiser landing pages to attribute referrals, prevent fraud, and report performance. CJ processes browser and device information (agent string, browser type, cookie IDs, click and impression data, IP address, referring URL, current URL) and transactional information (order IDs, online timestamps) for these purposes. CJ acts as an independent data controller for this processing. See the CJ Affiliate Services Privacy Policy.
Other affiliate networks
From time to time we work with additional reputable affiliate networks (for example Impact, Awin, Rakuten Advertising, PartnerStack). Where these networks place cookies or trackers on our pages we will identify them on this page and link their privacy notices.
Cookies and similar technologies
A cookie is a small data file placed on your browser by a website. We use cookies and similar technologies for two reasons:
- Operational and security cookies set by Cloudflare to keep the site online and protect against abuse. These are required for the site to function and are set on a legitimate-interest basis.
- Affiliate attribution cookies set by the affiliate networks listed above when you click an affiliate link. These cookies record the click and (if you complete a transaction with the merchant) the conversion. We do not set these cookies ourselves; they are set by the network and the merchant.
We do not run advertising cookies for retargeting or behavioural advertising. We do not run a Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or similar consumer-tracking script on this site.
Your choices. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking affiliate cookies will not break the site, but it may prevent us from earning a commission on a referral we sent you. For visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or California (and other jurisdictions with similar laws), see "Your rights" below.
How long we keep information
- Server access logs: retained by Cloudflare per its retention schedule (currently up to thirty days for raw logs).
- Email correspondence: retained for as long as necessary to respond and address any follow-up.
- Affiliate network cookies: lifetime is set by the network (typically twenty-four hours to ninety days).
Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your personal information with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
We do share information in the following limited cases:
- With our hosting provider (Cloudflare) to operate the site.
- With affiliate networks and merchants when you click their links, as described above.
- When required by law (court order, subpoena, or other legal process).
- In a business transfer (merger, acquisition, sale of assets), with notice to you.
International transfers
The Warrantyist is operated from the United States. If you visit from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States. We rely on Cloudflare's contractual safeguards (including Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable) for transfers from the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom.
Your rights
For all visitors. You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by emailing ask@warrantyist.com. We will respond within thirty days.
For California residents (CCPA / CPRA)
You have the right to:
- Know what categories of personal information we collect, the sources, and the purposes.
- Access the specific pieces of personal information we hold.
- Request deletion (subject to legal exceptions).
- Correct inaccurate personal information.
- Opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
- Be free from discrimination for exercising these rights.
To exercise any of these rights, email ask@warrantyist.com. You may designate an authorized agent to act on your behalf, with verification.
For visitors in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom (GDPR / UK GDPR)
You have the right to access your personal data and obtain a copy, correct inaccurate data, request erasure in certain circumstances, restrict or object to processing, receive your data in a portable format, withdraw consent (where we rely on consent), and lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
The lawful bases on which we rely:
- Operating and securing the site: legitimate interests.
- Responding to your email: legitimate interests and (where applicable) contract performance.
- Affiliate network attribution cookies: your consent, where required by local law. Cloudflare's security cookies are operational and rely on legitimate interests.
To exercise any of these rights, email ask@warrantyist.com.
Children
The Warrantyist is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under thirteen years of age (under sixteen in jurisdictions where the GDPR applies). If you believe a child has submitted information to us, contact ask@warrantyist.com and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be summarized at the top of the policy for thirty days after they take effect.
Editorial independence
Our recommendations are not paid placements. We earn commissions when you click affiliate links and complete a purchase, but our editorial process does not pick winners based on commission rate. Our reviews are based on publicly available information, complaint data, contract review, and (where noted) direct experience. We follow the Federal Trade Commission's Endorsement Guides.
